A Taste of Memory

回憶的味道

Commissioned by artist Monti Lai, POINTSMAN designed and produced the experience for her work 'Taste of Memory’ in Sai Kung Hoi Arts Festival.

The artwork portrays the life of a Hakka woman through eight fragmented scenes set within a traditional Hakka family room. To maintain the original and unique atmosphere of the venue, we implemented a minimalist design approach, allowing the space to speak for itself.

Accompanying the fragments is a thought-provoking text written by Yuen TV titled 'The Great Clearance. Resettlement. Hakka Woman.' This text offers a glimpse into the challenges and destiny of Hakka women's labour, their sense of identity, and their individual journeys. It explores how their elegance, which may not conform to traditional notions of femininity, gradually fades and becomes lost with the passage of time.

In this work, we have metaphorically used the calendar to symbolize the experiences of Hakka women. The printing method employed on the calendar pages intentionally fades over time, representing the gradual erasure of their stories and the ephemeral nature of memory.
